Townsend Ready for National League

The West Yorkshire Hawks are delighted to confirm that Poppy Townsend will be part of the club’s Women’s National League roster for the 2025/26 season.

The 21-year-old forward was a standout performer in the Hawks’ Leeds League side last year, impressing with her energy, work rate, and all-round game. Now, she is ready to take on the challenge of senior national league basketball and is expected to play an integral role in the Hawks’ first-ever Women’s National League campaign.

“When the team was being set up, the prospects of playing National League in West Yorkshire sounded incredible. I am reallylooking forward to improving my skills by working with hardworking, talented teammates this season,” said Townsend.

Hawks Founder Mark Mills praised Townsend’s attitude and growth since joining the club. “Poppy brought real positivity to the Hawks women’s team last year. Her attitude has been outstanding and I just know that this is going to translate really well onto the national league stage this season.”

Townsend will link up with her teammates next week for pre-season training, as the Hawks prepare to tip off their historic debut Women’s National League campaign later in September.
