Tough Loss for Hawks

West Yorkshire Hawks couldn’t recover from a sluggish start, falling 78-60 to Tees Valley Mohawks in Middlesbrough. A slow opening quarter proved costly, as the Hawks managed just nine points while allowing the Mohawks to build a 10-point cushion.

Despite finding more rhythm offensively in the second quarter, the Hawks couldn’t slow down a Mohawks side that had all the momentum. Tees Valley upped their scoring output and stretched the lead to 40-24 at halftime, putting the Hawks in a deep hole.

The second half saw a more competitive effort from the visitors, but the damage had already been done. The Mohawks maintained control, managing the game well down the stretch to secure an 18-point victory.

Dave Walsh led the Hawks’ scoring with 16 points, followed by Jermayne Laing with 13 and Rob Donaldson with 12.

Hawks head coach, Danny Byrne, wasn’t happy with the performance saying “The team and myself are disappointed with the performance today. It is not what we expect of one another and know that we need to raise the levels as we look to close out the season the right way. We understand what needs to change and will be working on that in the coming weeks.”

The Hawks will look to bounce back next Saturday as they hit the road once again for their final away game of the season against Manchester Kings.
