Hawks Too Strong For Riders
West Yorkshire Hawks secured a vital 74-69 win over Charnwood Riders in a thrilling game on Saturday night.
The game started with both teams delivering an impressive tempo and purpose, resulting in a tied score of 23-23 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Hawks elevated their defensive levels, holding the Riders to just 10 points and gaining a 3-point lead at halftime, leading 36-33.
Charnwood Riders mounted a comeback in the third quarter, with impressive perimeter shooting swinging the game in their favour, taking a one-point lead into the final 10 minutes, 52-51.
However, the Hawks took control in the final quarter, opening up offensively and creating breathing space in the closing minutes. Despite a valiant effort from the Riders, the Hawks closed out the 74-69 win.
Rob Donaldson led the scoring with 27 points, and Dave Walsh contributed 25 points, propelling the Hawks to 4th place, their highest position of the season.
Head Coach Mark Mills expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “We have had a real focus change over the last week, and I am really pleased to see the guys deliver a performance like that. We led for most of the game, and every player that stepped on the floor delivered tonight. That was a big win for us, and we keep our strong start to 2024 going.”
