Hawks Men Fly Past Sheffield
In front of a buzzing home crowd, the West Yorkshire Hawks Men delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, powering past a strong Sheffield College side 85–57 at the Hawks Nest to maintain their unbeaten league record.
Despite missing several key players, the Neon and Navy dug deep to overcome a fast start from the visitors. Sheffield came out firing, forcing an early timeout from the Hawks coaching staff. But the response was immediate with a refocused Hawks side battling back to close the opening quarter trailing by just two points.
From there, the momentum shifted. The second quarter saw the Hawks ramp up their defensive intensity, restricting Sheffield to just 12 points while finding their rhythm offensively. By halftime, the hosts had built a 41–31 lead and weren’t looking back.
Sheffield rediscovered some of their scoring touch after the break, but the Hawks were in full flight on the offensive end. Joe Heyes was in unstoppable form, notching a season-high 28 points, while Rob Donaldson added 21, Dan Pilkington 15, and Charles Olusunmade chipped in with 10.
Heading into the final period with an eight-point cushion, the Hawks turned the screw defensively once more. Their relentless pressure shut down Sheffield’s attack, limiting one of the league’s top offensive units to just 57 points and sealing a commanding 28-point victory.
Head Coach Danny Byrne was full of praise for his squad, saying “We knew that Sheffield were going to challenge us tonight and they absolutely did. I am so pleased by how the guys reacted after a slow start. They locked in, and to restrict one of the best offensive teams in our league to just 57 points is impressive.”
With the win, the Hawks remain top of the table and unbeaten in league play.
They return to action next Saturday at the Hawks Nest when they host Tameside Vikings. Fans can enjoy 20% off tickets by visiting https://tktp.as/EQLIKX and using the discount code HAWKS20.
