Hawks Dominant on the Road
The West Yorkshire Hawks extended their winning streak to seven games with a commanding 75-47 victory over Sheffield Elite at Sheffield College. From the opening tip, the Hawks imposed their will on both ends of the floor, leaving little doubt about the outcome.
A lightning-fast start in the first quarter saw the Hawks surge to a 13-point lead, fueled by intense defensive pressure and efficient offense. Sheffield Elite struggled to find their rhythm against the Hawks’ relentless energy.
Elite managed to steady their offense in the second quarter, but the Hawks remained firmly in control. By halftime, the scoreboard read 39-24, with the Hawks maintaining a comfortable 15-point cushion.
Coming out of the break, the Hawks raised the bar once again. Turning up the defensive intensity, the Hawks held Elite to just six points in the period while pouring in 20 of their own. The dominant stretch effectively sealed the game with a full quarter left to play.
The final period saw a more evenly contested affair, with both teams trading baskets at a lively pace. However, the Hawks’ early dominance ensured there was no late drama. When the final buzzer sounded, the Hawks had secured a decisive 28-point road win to keep their perfect 2024 campaign rolling.
Charles Andrews led the scoring charge with 17 points, showcasing his ability to finish strong around the rim and hit timely shots. Backcourt standout Dave Walsh added 16 points.
Reflecting on the game, Hawks head coach Danny Byrne said, “It wasn’t our best performance. It was a bit scrappy in places, but we got the job done and move onto the next game with confidence.”
The Hawks will now enjoy a weekend off before returning to action with another road game against Cheshire Wire on Sunday 2nd February.
