Hawks Deighton Close Season Strong

Hawks Deighton women’s team wrapped up their regular season in dominant fashion, securing a 51-29 road victory over Walkley Cottage Arrows. In a game that started with both teams trading baskets in a highly competitive first quarter, Hawks managed to carve out a narrow three-point lead by the opening break.

Defensive intensity became the difference-maker in the second quarter, as Hawks clamped down on the Arrows’ offense, limiting their opportunities. This shift allowed them to extend their lead to double digits, heading into halftime with a commanding 26-16 advantage.

The momentum carried into the second half, with Hawks continuing to execute on both ends of the floor. A composed and disciplined third quarter saw them push the gap to 15 points, leaving little doubt about the game’s trajectory. In the final quarter, Hawks put an exclamation mark on their regular season with a strong finish, closing out the contest with a decisive 22-point margin.

Vilma Jurgaityte led the scoring effort with 12 points, while Rachel Tunnacliffe and Ghinny Neher each contributed 10.

Reflecting on the victory, Hawks Deighton Head Coach Ula Kostka expressed her pride in the team’s effort saying “It is great to finish off the regular season with a good performance and the win. It has been a strong first season as Hawks Deighton, and I am proud of the team this year. We now look ahead to the playoffs and we are excited to push for the title.”

With the regular season in the books, Hawks Deighton will take a short break before shifting their focus to the postseason, where they aim to turn their impressive debut season into a championship run.
