Hawks Claim Victory In Pre-Season Clash With Cheshire Wire

The stage was set, and history was made as the West Yorkshire Hawks took flight in their first-ever game with a pre-season friendly against Cheshire Wire at the University of Huddersfield. The final scoreline read 70-62 in favor of the West Yorkshire Hawks.

 

The first quarter saw Cheshire Wire look like a cohesive team who were well drilled.  They took the early lead, ending the first quarter up by 5 (18-13).

 

The second quarter was where the Hawks truly began to spread their wings. With better teamwork and a better level of execution of their team offense, they outscored their opponents, turning the tide to take a halftime lead of 37-27 into the lockeroom.

 

The third quarter was another testament to the Hawks’ tenacity. They extended their lead further, heading into the final period with a score of 56-43.

 

Mechak Holondo emerged as the leading scorer for the team with 13 points. His tenacious work in the paint were a joy to watch. Rob Donaldson wasn’t far behind, contributing 12 crucial points, while Ethan Rose rounded out the top three scorers with 10 points and countless blocks. It was a collective effort that underlined the depth of talent and potential within the Hawks’ roster.

 

While this victory marked a significant milestone in the West Yorkshire Hawks’ history, it also served as a reminder that there’s always room for improvement. With their inaugural National League Division Three (North) season looming on the horizon later this month, the Hawks are well aware of the challenges ahead.

The West Yorkshire Hawks’ debut showcased a team with heart, ambition, and the potential to soar to greater heights.
