Coach Willey Returns for Uni of Hudd
The West Yorkshire Hawks are thrilled to announce the return of Adrian Willey, who is set to lead the next chapter of the Hawks’ dynamic partnership with the University of Huddersfield. After a standout debut season, Adrian has been instrumental in transforming basketball at the university and is now back to build on that momentum.
Since joining the Hawks last season, Adrian’s leadership of the University of Huddersfield’s men’s team resulted in an extraordinary promotion in their first campaign under his guidance. The impact of his work has not gone unnoticed, with plaudits coming from across the basketball community for his transformative coaching and commitment to excellence.
Reflecting on his return, Adrian shared his excitement, saying “Last season we set standards of what to expect from a University of Huddersfield basketball team with regard to culture, playing style and intensity in both training and games… Signing again to coach for the Hawks at the University of Huddersfield was easy, the program we are building is going to grow again in the coming season and I want to be part of it… The combined team of Hawks and University of Huddersfield are creating a strong dual education and basketball program for students to enjoy and further their basketball journey.”
The Hawks are equally delighted to have Adrian back in the fold, with club founder Mark Mills emphasising the significance of his return, saying “Getting Adrian to sign on the dotted line is huge. He is an amazing coach and someone who truly embraces the culture of the Hawks. His work with the university last season speaks volumes for his dedication and quality as a coach. I am already excited to see what they achieve next season.”
Adrian’s renewed leadership marks an exciting evolution of the Hawks’ partnership with the University of Huddersfield. Plans are already in motion to expand the basketball programme for the new season, creating more opportunities for student athletes to excel both on and off the court.
Currently, Adrian is hard at work recruiting the next generation of basketball talent to join the University of Huddersfield’s programme, ensuring a bright future for the Neon and Navy.
